Visit from the Bamford family

On Monday 16th December 16 members of the Bamford family spanning three generations revisited their former home. The family left Oldfields Hall in 1959 when it was sold to Staffordshire County Council. We learned from them about what the house and grounds were like when it had been a family home and looked at old photographs and plans that they brought.

The Food Club organised by Mrs Croft organised sumptuous refreshments and the group had a good look round. Thank you very much to Mrs Croft, the Food Club and the family for a fascinating morning – we hope you will be able to come back soon.

“Just to thank yourself, the staff and pupils for the visit to the school. It was a warm welcome and was most enjoyable to see my mother’s old home. The food you laid on was a real surprise and was a credit to the pupils.

I would be pleased to see the photos you took especially as the opportunity for us all to meet up is only about once a year so having photos at Oldfields is especially poignant and makes it a memorable family occasion.” James Deville

“Thank you very much for hosting the family yesterday and allowing us to tour Oldfields. It is wonderful that you have inspired in the children a sense for all the stories that the house keeps, and I hope that yesterday was fun for them. They were a credit to you and all your team.” Richard Bamford

“Thank you very much for arranging and allowing us all to visit your school, in such numbers! Your school is clearly very happy and thriving and the pupils made such a great effort to make us feel welcome and laid on some super food. Thank you.

Yesterday was a lovely day for us all, especially my Mother, Patricia and it was wonderful to hear her re-living her early years at Oldfields. Clearly a special place for all.” Charles Sandy

“Thank you very much for organising the Oldfields visit today – fabulous and lovely to have a good look round my father’s home. It was also lovely to see Elaine after all these years – a truly memorable day. Can I also say how fantastic your pupils were in showing us round, providing a scrummy table full of food and generally being utterly delightful. Please pass on my thanks to all involved.” Judy, Thomas and Alice Stewart

“I just wanted to say thank you for a brilliant morning at Oldfields with the rest of the Bamford family. It was just so interesting to see my father’s old haunts – and to talk to the children about their feelings about the place. I hope they enjoyed it as much as we did.” Joanna Bamford
